SEO for Etsy shop?

Hello everyone!
I'm a total newbie in SEO, so I'm here to learn and get some advice.
Let's say a person doesn't have a personal site to promote, he has a shop with handmade stuff on Etsy. I've seen Etsy shops in SERP, so I wonder how do people promote it? Is there a big difference in SEO for a regular site than to a "sub-site"?

If person don't have the site then also he/she can promote their business in the search engine through blog as per his/her niche and post relative content as per their business and promote the same blog through diverse off page activities also. Social media site are also the best way to promote any business or to build brand in the market. Without site, it is quite difficult and will take long time to get customers.
