I have a new ecommerce website which was launched 4 weeks back. While the site was on staging server, it accidentally got indexed in Google. We had to block the staging directory. but now the pages are indexing very slowly. there are around 14 K pages in total but so far only 100 pages have been indexed. Any help is greatly appreciated.  I can share the site details for webmaster tools if necessary and even willing to pay if you can help me.

Yes, ecommerce websites are not well indexed by Google if its urls are not seo friendly. You should minimize code, remove white space in code, use inline java script, improving page load speed etc. It will help robots to fast indexing of webpages of your website.

I don't know what exactly will be the problem because you haven't listed your site name Or anything. But till I know will be the problem is your Url Or will be somebody by mistake your developer added nofollow tag in Pages Or Disallow in robots.

Ecommerce websites has url issues. These urls are not properly formatted, most of these only indicates category number or page number. Google finds them difficult to crawl because of these issues. Try for url rewriting & then resubmit your sitemap to Google.

What kind of CMS that you are using ?
Index issue may come from you robots.txt config, or from hosting server.
Because Google BOT crawl and index your site base on your hosting performance.

You may need "Fetch as Google" tool in Google Webmaster Tools to sumbit your homepage and all connected link from it.
Good luck !

Your Ecommerce pages are not indexed in Google due to several reasons such as –

1. For an Ecommerce site, duplicate content is a common issue. Suppose your Ecommerce store is selling various versions of a particular mobile phone. If your site is designed to have one product per page, then crawlers may find difficult to distinguish and so only the initial page will be indexed not the remaining pages. So the best option is to use rel="canonical".

2. Poor Architecture is considered to be one of the reasons for pages not getting indexed by Google. For better architecture, sitemap page should be available in footer.

After fixing the above errors, you need to again check the total number of pages indexed by using Webmaster Tools.

1. Your site is too "young". Anything could happen when it's in "sandpit". And after site goes out of it, it might jump in SERP but more often it drops for some time, usually month or two and then climbs (relatively fast) to proper positions.
2. I know 14K pages is a lot. Takes time to crawl. Try to resubmit the map and then some of the pages manually.
3. Arrange signals from social media to pages that not indexed yet, preferably with sharing and likes from other accounts (hope you have enough people in your company to spend like 10min a day to do this stuff on facebook and twitter).

Ecommerce websites needs time to crawl as Google finds it difficult as most of the web pages are dynamically created. So, crawling gets tough for search engine bots.

Also, it may be a problem of interlinking. A proper site structure and interlinked between inner pages should be done accordingly.

Hello Members,

Ecommerce sites usually have some issues regarding its crawling. We have to work harder to crawl it properly. So in my opinion you have to focus more on its url structure, website load time, sitemap, website content so that google can easily crawl it.

I hope this information is useful to all.
Thanks.
