SquareSpace vs WordPress for SEO
« on: 03-20-2016, 09:22:21 »
Hi All, We currently have our site ( amritayoga.com ) on WordPress and we're considering
moving it to SquareSpace. Currently we have good rankings. What are the SEO limitations of
SquareSpace? SquareSpace has a page that lists the good SEO features it has, but are there
other features of SquareSpace that can limit SEO? Specifically I mean does SquareSpace have
features that would prevent certain SEO improvements from being included on a SquareSpace
website?

From what I've researched so far, it seems the SEO features in SquareSpace are pretty good and
pretty complete. Agree or disagree? Thanks,

While with Wordpress, you can have access to thousands of different tools and plugins to help improve your website, you should be aware that a significant number of these Wordpress tools may not be built by good developers.
If you do end upo using some of these poor Wordpress plugins, it may potentially  cause conflicts with your website - resulting in poorer performance, cross-browser conflicts, or even crashing your website.
If that happens, you ask the developer of the plugin for help but keep in mind that:
- they're not obliged to helpif the plugin is free;
- you won't be able to pinpoint which specific plugin caused the conflict if you have multiple plugin installed.
With Sqyarespace, everything is closely controlled, monitored and tested within their  own environment.
This will give you peace of mind that your website will be conflict free, so you can focus on more important things instead of fixing your website.

Hi Tom, Thanks for the reply. Great info. The team decided to stick with Wordpress. I was advocating for Squarespace but the others were nervous about switching. So now I'm becoming a Wordpress SEO expert instead of Squarespace. So far its been OK. The Yoast plugin seems to do most of what we need for basic SEO. And nowadays the *most important* thing for SEO is quality content so I've been hammering on the team to make even higher quality content. I'm learning a lot.

We're using the Divi theme and that's going to get a *major* upgrade very soon so hopefully that will make upgrading our website even easier.

I would still rather use Squarespace but oh, well. I adapt.

Thanks again. Cheers,
