Submitting to the search engines manually?  Well the rumor is that manually submitting a website through the search engine's tool is not as good for SEO results as spiders crawling the site organically.  What has your site experience been with this?

As others have said, manually submitting your website to search engines will get it crawled faster. Either way, your website will become indexed if people start showing up to it. However, it's advised that you should submit a sitemap to Google Webmasters Tools just to check and make sure your website is working properly for the Google search engine.

site map submission and manual site submission are different things.site map is basically for search engines while submitting sites manually is to get backlinks .Site map doesn't serve this purpose.

Submitting a website to search engines manually is more better than submitting via any automated tool since automated tools are not so perfect. Also it's very difficult to confirm that our submissions has been done successfully.
