Can twitter help bloggers ?

It's an important question because on the one hand blogging and twitter (which is considered micro blogging) is kind of like the same thing. I mean why blog if you're micro blogging and vice versa. Could you not just blog instead of twittering. It's like wasted content if it's all going on twitter.

I think twitter is in fact useless for the blogger but better for like eshops and stores who want to post announcements to the masses. Seems perfect for that type of stuff ? what do you all think ?
