Wordpress MU Anygood ?

I know it's designed for Multi-User blogging but does anyone here actually use MU. Is it safe to use and are there any alternatives to it ?

I've always wanted to launch a blogging service in a particular niche ? Do you think the ship has sailed on this opportunity or is it still something that's viable ?

Wordpress 3.0 will get multiuser support. So, if you are not going to setup something like blogspot.com, you can use wp 3.0 for blogging service.
