If a website is built naturally, you would not have to worry about your keywords not being related. The crawling robots have to rank lower the sites that are simply pages stuffed with keywords, which obviously has no value to anyone...like those old AdSense revenue generating sites that were built in the past.

You are absolutely correct about this.

I have been trying to rank for a short tail keyword of 2 words. However, I have discovered that I am ranking much better for all the related long tail keywords which I have used a lot less frequently in my tags.

Maybe I am been punished for the overuse of the 2 word phrase I am trying to rank.

LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing but let's not get complicated about this. In simple terms it is just how Google decides what your page is about. We all know about main keywords and anchor text links but these little guys are really important.

LSI keywords are used just to rank any website quickly. It has been used because Google sometimes crawl similar keywords as well which are not exactly the original one i.e. they are the synonyms of the original one. It's good to use LSI keywords as it is human readable and used in most of the topics as well.

LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing. These are keywords that are similar to synonyms and related keywords, but not entirely so. They are the words a normal human would use when talking about the keyword topic.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is a part of the Google algorithm. Knowing about it and implementing it as a part of your SEO strategy is crucial. "LSI keywords (also known as semantic keywords) are the related keywords to the main keyword. Many of the search engines like Google use it to decide the link between different entities of the web content." It helps Google get the meaning of the written content. It also deals with search relevancy. Including LSI keywords with main keywords is SEO friendly. In earlier days, search engines used exact search query to get results. With this, search engines were not giving accurate results. Now, search engines analyze the meanings of the search queries. The content synonymically linked to the search query, are also returned. Google mainly carried out this to fight spammers trying to cheat the search engine by using keyword stuffing.

Latent semantic indexing keywords (or LSI keywords) are nothing but SEO terms for related keywords or synonyms. Before this term has came into picture the only thing to determine relevancy of article was keyword density. Which means if your post is about "abc" and you have used it 10 times throughout the article than your competitor needs to use it 11 time to beat your position in Google search, but let me ask you, is it fair?? Same Thing applies for search engine, instead of taking high keyword density into consideration, search engine bot looks for related keywords (Latent semantic indexing keywords) throughout the article. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't maintain keyword density for target keyword in our article, but over optimization can cause issues. I usually keep it between 1- 3 %.
