Hi,
Our company is called XYZ Development. The company has nothing to do with software development.

Would it be ok to use xyz.DEV as our domain? Its a very short which is the attraction. But I dont know the consequences since we are not software company.

- would google algorithm penalise ranking for not being a software development company?
- is there anything technical that prevents it being use like this?
- is generally a bad idea?

Thanks
Dave.

We wouldn't recommend using it as it signifies the users that your website must have web development services but when they don't find such services in your domain, this will confuse them which may result in high bounce rate and this will surely tell Google to lower your site rank. I don't feel if Google will penalize your website if you use the .dev domain for the website other than web development services but it won't liked by the audience.
