When working on a website, there always seems to be a long list of things that could be improved. Technical issues, content, backlinks, internal linking, page speed, keyword research, and so on.

I'm curious how others decide what to work on first. Do you normally start with technical issues, focus on content and rankings, or look at the easiest improvements that can have an immediate impact?

I've found that trying to work on everything at once can make it difficult to see what is actually making a difference.

How do you normally prioritize your SEO work, especially when working with a limited amount of time or resources?

I usually start with technical issues that could prevent pages from being crawled or indexed, then move on to content and keyword opportunities. After that, I focus on internal linking, page experience, and backlinks based on the site's needs. A good digital marketing approach is to prioritize changes that can have the biggest impact, and ClickTraces is one example of a platform that can support this process.

SEO tasks should prioritize high-impact issues first, focusing on technical fixes, valuable keywords, quality content, backlinks, and measurable ranking opportunities.

First priority is check the keyword ranking and do research keyword in google adword keyword planner. Prepare the keyword for each page and make sure those keyword in content. Then focus backlinks.

I usually start with issues that could be holding the whole site back, like indexing problems or broken pages. After that, I check Google Search Console for pages sitting on page two or getting impressions but few clicks. Those can be quick wins. I think it's better to focus on a few changes at a time and track the results instead of trying to fix everything at once.

I prioritize SEO tasks based on their potential impact on rankings, organic traffic, and business goals. First, I fix critical technical issues, optimize high-value pages, and then focus on quality content and backlinks.

I'd sort the list by two questions: how many pages does this affect, and how cheap is it to fix. A sitewide problem like a broken canonical, a noindex left on from staging or slow templates beats anything you do on a single post. Once that is clean, pick the five or six pages that already earn impressions in Search Console and improve only those, with a clearer title, a better intro and a few internal links from related pages. That is usually where small effort shows up fastest. Backlinks and brand new content come after, because they take longer to measure. Write each change and its date in a simple sheet so you can see what moved the numbers.
