A good SEO tracking checklist should include Google Search Console and Google Analytics setup, keyword rankings, organic traffic, click-through rates, impressions, and conversion tracking. It is also important to monitor indexing status, sitemap health, broken links, page speed, and Core Web Vitals regularly. Keeping a monthly report helps identify trends, measure progress, and prioritize improvements based on actual website performance.

A tracking setup I would actually trust comes down to a short checklist:

1. Search Console: verify the property, submit the sitemap, and check the coverage/indexing report for errors before anything else.
2. Analytics: make sure conversions are defined as events, not just pageviews. A traffic number without conversion data tells you almost nothing.
3. Rank tracking: pick 10-20 money keywords and track them weekly. Daily rank checks will just make you anxious over normal fluctuation.
4. Technical monitoring: a monthly crawl (even a free tool) to catch broken links, redirect chains, and pages that fell out of the index.
5. Log it: keep a simple change log of what you publish and edit. When traffic moves, you will want to know what changed and when.

One common mistake is tracking too much and acting on noise. Start with these five, get them right, and expand only when you have a specific question the data cannot answer yet.
