As per my overview Blog comment help you to get increase your keyword ranking and page rank of the website. It mostly the edu and gov backlink which is very strong boost up your page rank of the website. If you do in relevant blogs then it will increase your visitor to your website and helpful for getting more sales conversion to your promoted product or services.

blog commenting is far too easy to attain backlinks, this is why google has really devalued the influence of the links in comments sections, they best place to try and get links is "above the fold" this mean links that are naturally visable without scrolling down the page. these are given the highest weighting and the highest clickthrough rate.

for a comment link to be elegable for a good chance of being a good link it needs to be one of the first comments on the post, as link juice is reduced the more times a link is seen, so the first link in a list is given slightly more weight than the last link in the list

Blog commenting is more effective if  the blog where you are in is popular and can easily crawled by search engines. This is my opinion.

Blog commenting can be a useful SEO tactic, but its effectiveness depends on various factors. When done correctly, commenting on relevant and high-authority blogs can increase your online presence, drive traffic, and even boost your search engine rankings. However, spammy or irrelevant comments can have the opposite effect, leading to penalties or even a complete removal of your website from search engine results.

A high-quality comment that adds value to the conversation, includes a link to your website, and is written in a natural and engaging tone is more likely to be beneficial for your SEO.

In 2011, blog commenting was considered an effective SEO tactic, especially for building backlinks and driving traffic. However, its impact depended on relevance and quality. Genuine, insightful comments on authoritative blogs could help SEO, but spammy or irrelevant comments were often penalized by search engines, reducing their effectiveness over time.
