There is absolutely no reason why you should ping your links. I discussed this so many times on other forums as well and there always people who tell you that you need to tell Google about your links, but believe me it will be indexed one way or another.

And if Google doesn't believe your link is worth being indexed, then it won't be indexed even if you use 1000 pings...
