File management software

I'm trying to get our internal communication flow in order and was thinking of getting a new file management software to keep everyone on the same page. We make a lot of invoices and scans in a day, and forwarding PDFs and re-forwarding the edited ones is a constant exercise. Note that the team has remote workers who contribute on an irregular basis, and whenever one of them uploads an edited file to the system, it's hard to tell which item is the newest one...

So, I've been looking for affordable software that could automatically "understand" which file should go in which directory, our team is in dire need of assistance there...
Any tips?

I've tried several DMS apps in the past few years, I think any of these will get the job done in your case: Templafy, FileCenter, M-files... See which one you find most intuitive and perhaps start with a free trial so you leave some space for each coworker to catch up. I'm in a similar position, my company is operating on a work-from-home/office hybrid model, so yeah, it can get tricky when trying to find common ground for everyone's work habits...

Thanks, your recommendations pretty much align with my SERPs findings thus far :) I've also been reading articles about improving an office file management strategy and did some brainstorming with the team, so I dare say we've set a fine course for ourselves. Of course, I'll have to make one final push and dig deeper before deciding
