OOP stands for Object-Oriented Programming. Procedural php is about writing procedures or functions that perform operations on the data and is called corephp, while object-oriented php is about creating objects that contain both data and functions.

MVC and frameworks like CodeIgniter, Laravel, Cake PHP and Yii have gotten much popularity in past few years.

Core PHP is nothing more than vanilla PHP without Laravel, CodeIgniter, or other frameworks. A skilled programmer can build lean, optimized backend logic with it, but bad architecture, messy SQL, and poor refactoring will ruin performance regardless.
