I have just enrolled in Bing webmaster tools and found that my website, http://shootingtime.com has multiple H1 tags which is considered a no no by many. How can I resolve this? I have a child theme and have investigated with chrome's developer tool but can't figure this out. Any advice would be appreciated!

Occurrences:

<h1 class="site-title">Shootingtime.com</h1>

<h1 class="menu-toggle">Menu</h1>

<h1 class="entry-title">Archery Tips and Bowhunting Tips</h1>

<h1>Welcome to the Archery Tips Portal</h1>

<h1 class="widget-title">Manufacturer Info and Specs</h1>

<h1 class="widget-title">Helpful Websites and Forums</h1>

Thanks for the help guys!!

To resolve this issue, you should aim to have only one H1 tag per page, ideally representing the main heading or title of the content.

Looking at the examples you provided, it seems that some of the H1 tags are site-wide elements like the site logo or menu. These should not be designated as H1 tags, as they don't represent the specific content of each page.

To fix this, you can replace the inappropriate H1 tags with appropriate heading tags such as H2 or H3, depending on the hierarchy of your content. For example, the "Archery Tips and Bowhunting Tips" section could be an H2 tag instead of an H1. Similarly, the "Welcome to the Archery Tips Portal" could also be an H2 tag.

Make these changes directly in your theme files, specifically the header.php file for the site title, and the relevant template file for each page, post, or widget title. Ensure that you make these changes in your child theme files to avoid losing them during theme updates.

Once you've made the necessary modifications, verify the changes using Chrome's developer tools or any other web development tool to inspect the updated HTML structure. Afterward, resubmit your sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure the changes are recognized and reindexed by their crawler.

1. Analyze your theme settings: Check if your WordPress theme has any built-in options or settings that allow you to control the heading structure. Some themes provide customization options for header tags, which can help you align with SEO best practices.

2. Review your widgets: Look into the widgets you have on your website and ensure they are not using H1 tags for their titles. If they are, modify them to use appropriate heading tags like H2 or H3.

3. Utilize CSS styling: If certain headings are only being used for styling purposes rather than as important content headers, consider utilizing CSS to achieve the desired visual effect instead. This way, you can avoid using unnecessary H1 tags.

4. Double-check your child theme: Make sure you have correctly activated and configured your child theme. Any modifications you make should be done within the child theme files to prevent them from being overwritten when the parent theme is updated.

5. Validate HTML: Use online HTML validators to check for any HTML errors or issues with your website's code. This can help identify any problematic H1 tags or other HTML-related problems.

6. Keep an eye on future changes: Whenever you update or install new plugins, themes, or widgets, double-check their settings and code to ensure they don't introduce additional H1 tags or other SEO issues.

more tips to improve your website's SEO and address the multiple H1 tags issue:

1. Prioritize the main content: Ensure that the primary heading of each page accurately represents its main content. This should be the most important heading on the page and ideally the only H1 tag.

2. Use subheadings effectively: Utilize H2, H3, and other heading tags to create a logical hierarchy for your content. H2 tags should be used for section headings, while H3 tags can be used for subsections within those sections.

3. Optimize keyword usage: Make sure your headings and content include relevant keywords that accurately represent the page's topic. However, avoid keyword stuffing and prioritize readability and user experience.

4. Review your theme's code: Check the theme files responsible for generating the headings and ensure they are properly structured. If necessary, consult with a developer or the theme's support forum to rectify any issues related to heading tags.

5. Leverage SEO plugins: Consider using SEO plugins like Yoast SEO or All in One SEO Pack. These plugins often include features that allow you to optimize heading tags and provide insights into improving your overall SEO.

6. Test and validate changes: After making modifications to your website's heading structure, validate the changes using W3C Markup Validation Service or other similar tools. This ensures your HTML is error-free and follows best practices.

7. Monitor search engine guidelines: Keep an eye on official webmaster guidelines from search engines like Bing and Google. Staying informed about any updates or changes can help you maintain a strong SEO foundation.
