Three way linking is a circle of backlinks... For instance, you want to link your website A to another web page B, which is less related to your theme. In this case you will introduce a third website C in the process which is related to linking and to be linked website.
Now website A will link to website C and website C wil link to website b, this is what we call three way linking.

Three-way link building, also known as a link wheel or link triangle, is a technique used in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). In this method, three websites provide reciprocal links to each other, forming a triangle configuration. This strategy is used to create the impression of natural link building.

Here's how it works:

Website A links to Website B.
Website B links to Website C.
Website C links back to Website A.
In a perfect model, this configuration means that no two websites directly exchange links with each other. The theory behind this practice is to replicate real and natural link building behaviors, as natural links tend not to be reciprocal (I link to you, you link back to me).

It's worth mentioning that, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, this method of link building is generally frowned upon by search engines like Google. It's seen as a manipulative tactic aimed at artificially boosting a website's search engine ranking. Google's guidelines emphasize the value of high-quality content, user experience, and real, natural backlinks over such schemes. SEO best practices may have evolved further afterwards, so it would be pertinent to refer to the most updated SEO guidelines.

As search engines have grown smarter, they have devised better ways to discern the quality and nature of backlinks. Direct reciprocal links (Website A links to Website B, and Website B links back to Website A) can be easily detected, so the logic behind three-way link building is a bit more deceptive. In a three-way setup, the hope is that the search engines will treat each link as a higher-quality one-way backlink rather than a lower-quality reciprocal link.

However, it's important to remember that search engines, especially Google, are continually developing more sophisticated algorithms to not only detect such practices but also penalize websites involved in such schemes. They prefer organic link building—when other sites link to yours because they find your content valuable and authoritative.

The best and most sustainable SEO strategies tend to focus on creating high-quality content that adds value for users. This in turn attracts organic backlinks from other sites, social shares, and improved user engagement, all of which can help a website rank better over time. Effective SEO also involves regularly auditing your website to improve technical SEO aspects, such as site speed, mobile optimization, and use of relevant keywords.

more points on the topic.

Web of Deception: Though three-way linking might seem like a brilliant structure, it can turn into an intricate "web" that's easy to get lost in. As the number of sites involved in three-way linking increases, it becomes exponentially difficult to manage. Tracking the status and health of such links can be a nightmare, as could dealing with potential penalties from search engines.

Quality Over Quantity: Unnatural link building strategies, such as three-way link building, often emphasize quantity over quality of backlinks. This can actually be detrimental. Search engines are becoming better at understanding the relevance and quality of the links and websites linked to. Low-quality or irrelevant backlinks could harm your website's ranking in search engine results.

Time-consuming and Complex: Implementing a successful three-way link building strategy typically requires a significant investment in time and energy. You need to find reliable partners, manage all the links, monitor for changes, and troubleshoot any issues that arise. This level of complexity leads many to wonder if these resources would be better spent on internal site improvements and traditional, organic SEO efforts.

Risk of Penalties: As mentioned earlier, engaging in unnatural link building can result in penalties from search engines. These penalties can dramatically affect your website's ranking and traffic. Google's Penguin algorithm update, for instance, specifically targets and penalizes sites that engage in link schemes.

In conclusion, best practices in modern SEO focus on organic growth and relevance to the user. Rather than attempting to game the system through complex linking strategies, most SEO experts recommend focusing on creating unique, high-quality content that delivers value to your visitors. In turn, this content is more likely to garner authentic backlinks, shares on social media, and higher placement on SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Additionally, properly implementing technical SEO elements, such as mobile optimization, site speed, and relevant keyword usage can all significantly enhance a site's SEO effectiveness.

Three way inbound links is a range of inbound links... For instance, you want to weblink your web page A to another web page B, which is less relevant to your theme. In this case you will create a third web page C in the process which is relevant to inbound links and to be linked web page.
