New website, up and down on Google ranking

Hi Guys,

I've created a new website. After building the website last month, it was nowhere to be seen on Google as it was new, then I did some basic SEO on the website by optimizing keywords and some link building on similar topic websites etc. and it came up on Google on Page 1 and 2 for a couple of keywords. After checking in the last couple of days in the hope that the ranking would go up as my link building should take into effect, I noticed that the ranking have gone down slightly (3-4 ranks). I would like to know if this is normal or Googlebot has penalised me for bad SEO techniques?

Google is updating site ranking everyday. That is why is important to do proper SEO to promote your site.

Not every ranking drop is a penalty - although many webmasters do use that word rather casually!

Give some time for your baby site to sink into the system...Jumping and stagnating in rankings is pretty common because "the competitor never sleeps". Keep working on rigorous on-site and off-site optimization techniques to outgun your competitors.

I think it is normal when your site goes up or down in SERP, esp if it's a new site.
It is not necessarily your site's fall and a result of being penalized, but it may rather be the result of your competitors site's improvement.
Keep on running a proper SEO campaign and will enjoy results.

p.s. Have you thought about Google Honeymoon? Your website is a new one!

Yes some times it happened in SEO just do your work and wait for stability.
