Should we opt for free hosting for a long time.  No.  It is not advisable to remain hosted free for a long time.  It is always better to upgrade to make use of all the additional features of the host such as uptime, bandwidth and space.

if you're a cheap skate and have no plans for every making it on the web! Then yeah i guess it's fine but if you're serious I'd spend the $4-5 per month that's needed to get your own hosting. It's always worth it...

@captian caveman : God you're blunt, but right too!

My view is that if you don't intend on making any money on the net then by all means go for free hosting. Won't cost you a thing but you'll never make anything either!

If you're looking long term and want to build a site that can be sold and even earn you back some money you should steer clear of free hosting. Don't forget it's free, so if they trash your database or lose your files, they don't owe you anything. Not even an explanation, they're free at the end of the day. So you get what you pay for!

Spending at least $5 a month on hosting seems to be a sensible idea.  It is a good decision as well.

free hosting is good for non-profit or low profit.  There are a lot of options with this, blogger, wordpress and things like 100mb you can get a lot done with hosting, but paid hosting just $5 a month can do a lot.

Well, I am not against free hosting.  I would say the main disadvantage with them is that their customer support may not be that good and hence it is always better to upgrade.

You say that but 000webhosting is a dream.

No ads - No nothing and brilliant customer support with a guarantee that you site will be up 99% of the time, that is a pretty strong guarantee that I have used and they have been a brilliant firm.

No costs to me and you are allowed to use adsense with them so its pure profit!

I would have to second this quote, but I do have to tell you that they promise 99.9% uptime, which is as good, if not better than most paid services.

I have never had a problem with 000webhost, it works perfectly for me, and best of all its completely free.

Everything made with adsense/CPALead/Swagbucks is all profit, all you have to buy is the domain name, and then making the website.

Anyone agree?

If you're a serious webmaster free hosting is a waste of time. Even for just say image storage or temp storage i'd argue that it's risky to put your business in the hands of a free host. They're free, owe nothing to you and could simply trash your business over night.

free hosting can be used to an extent and i think is great for starters. you can always change to a better host if need be but why pay from the start when you can invest more wisely
