I am working on a project and all the clients keywords are ranking on 1st page and 2nd page. Website is just 4 months old and now client took off the project yesterday saying the reason is low sales. Is the sales in our(SEO's) hand? I did my part well, A better ON- page SEO and OFF- page as well. Did everything to rank the website but still this client is not happy. Is this my mistake?

It's unfortunate that your client is not happy with the sales despite achieving good rankings for their keywords. While SEO can certainly contribute to improving website visibility and driving organic traffic, it does not guarantee conversions or sales. There could be various reasons why the website is not generating sufficient sales, including factors outside of your control, such as product quality, pricing, user experience, or competition.

It's important to communicate with your client and understand their specific expectations and goals from the SEO efforts. Sometimes, clients may have unrealistic expectations or misunderstand the role of SEO in driving sales. As an SEO specialist, it's your responsibility to educate and manage their expectations, highlighting that SEO is just one part of the overall marketing strategy.

Additionally, it might be helpful to analyze other aspects of the website and sales funnel to identify any potential issues. Collaborate with the client and explore alternative strategies to boost sales, such as conversion rate optimization, targeted advertising, or content marketing.

Overall, while you should reflect on your SEO approach to ensure best practices were followed, it's important to remember that sales outcomes are influenced by a multitude of factors beyond SEO alone.

In my opinion, you are right at your place as SEO is process to gain SERPs ranking not sales directly. It depends on your contract too as if client previously mentioned about sales scenario, if not, i think you are right at your end.

If the keywords are on the first page of Google, then your client sales should increase. Did you set up goal properly in Google Analytics? What about the status of high competitive keywords? Are these keywords too in the first page of Google?

Hi I am Nirmal new to this forum and topic.
As you said all your clients business keyword are ranking on top 10 with your SEO effort, than in this case you are not wrong anywhere. You should talk to your client about this. As mention in contract tell your clients that you are responsible for ranking and traffic only. Converting traffic into conversion is not your subject.

I think the problem is the keyword choice. Some kws are more popular, highly competitive and can bring more sales while low-searched kws are easy to rank but will not generate many sales. You should revise all kws, use some tools to analyze the competition, etc.

The keywords which you choose might have less searches (volume). Also, you should select your keywords depending on what you exactly want to gain by your online presence.

The main thing that matters the clients is ROI (Return on Investment). If the client is not able to get more sales than his investment into SEO, then obviously he will be unhappy.

I've had the same issue with a store for hand-made jewelry. The website was on first page just after 2 months and got over 400 visitors per day, however not a single sale. After 4 months it was shut down. I think that SEO-s job is done as soon as the website is on first page and the traffic is good. It's the owner's job to convert the visitors to buy, not the SEO's.

It's not your problem, my friend.

If someone comes to me and wants to rank for "Cat Shaving Kits" and they don't sell any, it's a problem with their product or their sales copy.  You did your job.  Cat shaving kits just aren't popular this year. :)

Hi,

Could you please tell me when you start the SEO? In my idea, while doing SEO you need to wait till 3 to 4 months to get estimated results. You can do analysis to your keywords and check the local and global searches count, and also google search results. For finding this you will get the idea why your client not getting the business. !-! !-! !-!
