Share icon
The Open Share Icon is a 100% open, community generated, free to use icon designed to help users easily identify shareable content. These icons are freely available for use by others under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.
Design Notes
The Open Share icon conveys the act of sharing by visually representing one hand passing an object to another hand, as in "pass it on" or "sharing". The icon also represents an "eye", as in "look at this".
The design of the Open Share Icon is inspired by Alex King's original Share Icon. The original Share Icon is now trademarked and cause for controversy due to it being subject to take-down notices by its new owners.
Project Support
The Open Share Icon is supported by - Ken Rossi (creator of the widely used OPML icons), Bruce McKenzie (GeoTag icons), and is used by hundreds of websites and applications including SmugMug (over 2 million users [1]), NetworkWorld, AddToAny (#2 Wordpress plugin for sharing [2]), Shareaholic (over 800,000 users [3]), the Mozilla Add-ons Directory[4], Weather Underground, Princeton University, and Google.
